Accidents are never a good thing. Right ?? One such distillery who is definitely happy as a result of this accident is AARDBEGGG.A broken boiler, quick thinking by Ardbeg’s Director of distilling, an opportunity resulted in a crazy, pungent and vibrant flavour with limited release date on February 1, 2022 and opened to Ardbeg Committee members.

Ardbeg Fermutation sprung to life from a pretty difficult moment for the distillery. In 2007, just before Christmas, the boiler broke down. This meant the wash at the distillery couldn't be distilled after its normal 72 hour fermentation, and was instead distilled after a 3 week fermentation. The result is a more zingy, fruit driven spirit.
Matured in 1st fill and refill bourbon casks, a chance to try this long fermented dram.
Official Tasting Notes
Nose – Fresh, floral, herbal & tart. Hints of mixed herbs and cedar wood. Very zesty, vibrant, hints of smoked orange & grapefruit, lots of menthol & peppermint.
Nose – With water, powerful bursts of diesel oil, tar, fresh paint and aniseed. As this dies down, a memory of freshly cut hay, a touch of silage and the tiniest hint of something savoury, like yeast extract or bread dough.
Palate – A lively, vibrant, sharp, zingy texture, leading into very firm, distinctive flavours – malty/biscuit tones, powerful aniseed, cardamon, antiseptic lozenge, sweet mint toffee and cigar ash.
