The Glenlivet 12-Year-Old Licensed Dram has been aged in first-fill US and European oak casks. The iteration, the bottle design is based on the oldest Glenlivet expression, and is the second from the single malt’s ‘Original Stories’ series. The Glenlivet 12 Year Old Licensed Dram - Our License to be Bold is a limited edition exclusive. The next limited edition of The Glenlivet Original Stories Series –Licensed Dram celebrates Glenlivet's Founder, George Smith, securing the First Licence to legally make whisky in the Glen. In honour & recognition of George Smith’s successful pursuit of obtaining the first whisky licence in the Glen, this whisky will be a “First Fill Double Oak”; the fruity house style of The Glenlivet 12YO but now celebrated through First Fill barrels. At 48% ABV this is a new take on the original Speyside Whisky that started it all
Nose: Soft peaches, strawberry jam intertwined with warming cinnamon and gingerbread.
Taste: Golden honey, vanilla custard layered perfectly with hazelnut and liquorice.
Finish: Long and slightly sweet finish with lasting spice notes.
In 1824, George Smith was the first distiller in the Glenlivet valley to apply and obtain the license to legally produce his whisky, which set the benchmark for Speyside style. Our License To Be Bold: George Smith held his breath as the Duke took a slow, soft, swig from his dram. It all came down to this. His dream was within reach. A licence to produce whisky openly in the Glen. It would be the first time such a thing had happened in history. Everyone had scoffed at the idea. Told him he was mad. That it simply wasn’t how things were done. But this was who George was. He knew his own character well, and he was far too dogged to give up on his vision. This was the future. He was sure of it. Just as he was sure his whisky would be the finest the Duke had ever tasted. So he waited. And the Duke smiled. “You’re a bold man George Smith. And you’re going to need to be a brave one too to pull this off. The licence is yours my friend. And maybe the world will be too.
