This whisky, characterized by its sherry-seasoned lineage and sumptuous richness, finds its namesake in the Spanish word for 'dark,' reflecting its enticingly deep hue. A Lesson in Patience

The Macallan Oscuro is meticulously drawn exclusively from oak casks that have been seasoned with Oloroso Sherry. An exceptionally high proportion of these casks are of the first-fill variety, imparting a profound, rich colour and an intense flavour profile to the whisky. At the pinnacle of maturation, the whisky is gently brought to 46.5% alcohol by volume using natural spring water sourced from deep boreholes beneath The Macallan Estate. It then undergoes a tranquil period of at least six months within resting casks, allowing the flavours to harmonize and reach their full potential. There are no further reductions in strength, and the whisky remains unfiltered at ambient room temperature before being bottled, all for your ultimate enjoyment. From the Heart of the Cask

The oak is the primary contributor to the quality, natural colour, and distinctive aromas and flavours that define this single malt whisky. 

Once filled, the maturing spirit is left undisturbed within these very casks for the requisite number of years, patiently awaiting the moment when it is deemed worthy of becoming a Macallan expression. It is these oak casks that wield the greatest influence over the quality, natural color, and unique scents and tastes that lie at the core of The Macallan single malt.
